"ABAD" beneficiary: Konul Seyidova | Region: Ismayilly | Carpet weaving
Carpet weaving, one
of the most iconic forms of Azerbaijani folk art, continues to thrive in the
Ismayilli region, where many local residents remain committed to preserving
this traditional craft.
As part of the
project “Promoting Sustainable Income Generation for Mountain Communities”—a
joint initiative of ABAD, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and
the Global Environment Facility (GEF)—14 families from the region were selected
for support, the majority of whom are engaged in carpet weaving.
Among the
ABAD-affiliated artisans operating in this sector is Konul Seyidova. With years
of experience in textile crafts, she produces handmade carpets, garments, and
souvenirs. Ms. Seyidova is particularly passionate about weaving Shirvan-style
carpets, while also applying techniques from other regional weaving traditions.
Her handcrafted
souvenir carpets, produced with the support of ABAD, are now available at
official ABAD Handicrafts Centers.
