"ABAD" beneficiary: Asim Abbasov | Region: Sheki | Pottery and ceramics
Asim Abbasov was born into an intellectual family in the Sheki district. His parents, sister, and brother are specialists in technical sciences. Noticing young Asim’s inclination toward fine arts from childhood, his parents ensured he studied at a physics-mathematics and humanities-oriented lyceum while also creating opportunities for him to take painting classes at the Sheki Children’s Art School.
“I decided to continue my higher education in a direction related to fine arts. I am a graduate of the Faculty of International Relations at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. I also completed my master’s degree in Cultural Studies at the same university. However, throughout all these years, I was actively engaged in my painting activities.”
According to A. Abbasov, he earned his “entry card” to the artistic community after founding the “Artclub” gallery, workshop, and café project together with his artist friends. This initiative created a network for many well-known and emerging local and international painters, sculptors, and art figures of our time. Asim Bey also became acquainted with “ABAD” through “Artclub.”
“When I joined ‘ABAD,’ I was working on the realization of painted souvenirs. Later, after ‘ABAD’ opened the Ceramics and Applied Arts Center in Sheki, I became acquainted with ceramics, fell in love with the world of ceramics, and directed my creativity toward this field. For several years now, I have been working as a permanent painter-ceramist at the ‘ABAD’ Ceramics and Applied Arts Center. In the future, I intend to promote and popularize these aspects of our culture worldwide by organizing ceramic exhibitions.”
