"ABAD" beneficiary: Zarifa Damirova | Region: Baku | Decorative-applied art
Zarifa Damirova, born in the Ismayilli district but currently a resident of Baku, is an “ABAD” artisan. Her interest in handicrafts from childhood led her to the profession of fashion designer.
“Our home was always adorned with my grandmother’s and mother’s woven and sewn handicrafts. I grew up surrounded by this magnificence and the positive energy of handmade work.”
Z. Damirova is engaged in decorative-applied arts. Since 2015, when her daughter also began studying design, they started implementing the idea of decorating ceramic vessels with national ornaments:
“I prefer national ornaments. We began decorating various glass or ceramic items, such as armudu glasses, sugar bowls, plates, vases, and more, with these patterns. I particularly love depicting shebeke, buta, and pomegranate motifs.”
Together with her daughter, Zarifa Damirova has participated in numerous exhibitions with these handmade works. Subsequently, she applied to sell her works in national souvenir shops:
“My search for places to sell my products led me to ‘ABAD.’ I feel significant support from ‘ABAD’ in presenting my products. This motivates me to create even more new products.”
