"ABAD" beneficiary: Rza Mammadov | Region: Ganja | Pottery and ceramics
Rza Mammadov, a
ceramics artist from the city of Ganja, is one of the distinguished members of
the ABAD artisan family. He represents the continuation of a lineage of
craftsmanship — his artistic journey having been deeply influenced by his
father, Saleh Rza oghlu, a well-known master in the field.
Rza spent his
childhood in his father’s workshop, where he closely observed the traditional
tools and techniques of pottery-making. From an early age, he experimented with
the potter’s wheel and began crafting small clay items, developing his skills
through hands-on exploration and mentorship.
Inspired by his
early successes and driven by a desire to carry forward his family’s artistic
heritage, Rza committed himself to the ceramic arts. As a second-generation
artisan, he works primarily with clay, creating a variety of decorative items
and functional vessels. His works are adorned using angobes and underglaze
paints — traditional techniques that lend his pieces a distinctive aesthetic.
Rza Mammadov’s
creations have found a place in private collections in several countries, a
testament to the artistic and cultural value of his work. He has also
participated in numerous national exhibitions, showcasing his craftsmanship to
a broader audience within Azerbaijan.
In pursuit of wider
recognition and increased sales, Mr. Mammadov joined the ABAD initiative.
Through ABAD’s support, he has been able to introduce his work to a larger
public and benefit from organized sales channels.
Today, his diverse
range of ceramic products is on display and available for purchase at ABAD’s
Handicraft and Sales Centers, where they continue to attract both local and
international admirers.
