The President of Albania Bayram Begay arrived
in Azerbaijan on an official visit to participate in the 11th Global Baku Forum. He also had a visit to Sheki as part of the trip.
Within the course of the trip, President Begay,
the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the head of the
Sheki City Executive Power also visited the "ABAD" Ceramics and
Applied Art Center located in the territory of the "Yukhari Bash"
National Historical-Architecture Reserve.
The guest was informed that the purpose of the
center's activity is to preserve and pass on the historic ceramic traditions of
our country, mainly Sheki, to future generations, as well as to introduce
ceramic works made of different types of Azerbaijani clay to the world. It was
mentioned that 98 of the 128 types of clay in the world are found in
Azerbaijan.
It was also stated that Sheki with its unique
ceramic traditions has become a member of the European Ceramic Route which promotes
the cultural heritage of ceramic production and Sheki “ABAD” Ceramics and
Applied Art Centre had a special role during the selection process.
At the end, the President of Albania was presented
with a handcrafted souvenir made at the Ceramics and Applied Art Centre.
